SFA Bonus – Ladies Who Launch: Lindsay, Andrea, and KM Shea talk about their recent series launches

An extra show this week!

An informal one. Lindsay and previous guest on the show KM Shea (also known as Kitty) ended up launching new urban fantasy series on the same day. They were emailing back and forth and comparing notes, and Lindsay thought you guys might be interested in hearing them discuss their launches. Jo was out of town for this impromptu session, but Andrea also joined us and talked about her launch of the Midnight Chronicles last fall.

Here are some of the topics we covered:

  • What are your thoughts on launching in all the book stores (wide) versus exclusive to Amazon and in Kindle Unlimited?
  • Why jump into a new genre? (Kitty and Lindsay were both coming from other genres — retold fairy tales for Kitty and epic fantasy and space opera for Lindsay.)
  • What was the genesis for your new series? Did you study the market and write something you thought would be to trend or market?
  • What price did you launch Book 1 at and why?
  • What kind of cover art did you do? Did you look at the types of covers that are selling and follow trend?
  • Did you do pre-orders? If so, how long of a pre-order, how did it go, and would you recommend it to others?
  • Did you do an ARC (advance review copy) team? Why or why not?
  • What were your plans for launch week and building up to it?
  • What advertising did you do?
  • Newsletter swaps, yay or nay?
  • Do you have any regrets or things you’ll do differently next time?

If you want to check out Lindsay’s, Kitty’s, and Andrea’s series, here are the links to the first books on Amazon:
