For this week’s show, we talked about going exclusive with Amazon to be in Kindle Unlimited and get their other promotional perks versus choosing to make your work available in all the bookstores. We talked about what we do, then went over some of the advantages and disadvantages of both.
We tried to take a neutral viewpoint, and not urge you in either direction, but hopefully our discussion will help you if you’re trying to decide what’s best for your author career right now. Also, a reminder that this all applies to ebooks. You can be wide with paperbacks and (if you opt out of Audible exclusivity) audiobooks if you want while being exclusive with ebooks.
Here’s the gist of what we talked about:
- Our experiences and how we each handle Kindle Unlimited/wide.
- Advantages of KU/Amazon exclusivity.
- Disadvantages/challenges of KU/Amazon exclusivity.
- Advantages of going wide.
- Disadvantages/challenges of going wide.
- Advantages/disadvantages of going the hybrid approach (part of your catalog exclusive and part of it wide).
In a couple of weeks, after two upcoming interviews, there will be a Part 2 to this episode. We’ll finish what we didn’t get to today (who might each of these methods be right for?) and also answer some of your questions related to this topic. So if you have questions on Kindle Unlimited/Amazon exclusivity or being wide and in all the bookstores with your ebooks, please ask them before March 15th in our Facebook Six Figure Authors group.
Thank you for listening, and thank you to Joshua Pearson for producing the show!
