This week, we talked about several things that are important for long-term success as an author/publisher. As indie authors, having a marathon mindset is vital if we plan to be successful at this in five, ten years, and not just now. Sprints (one-off books) are fun and can bring in some good cash in the moment, but our goal is to develop a large backlist of books that readers want to read over and over again and share with their friends and family.
In the show we went over:
- Our personal habits and systems (not writing) that have helped us develop long-term success.
- Schedules that work for us.
- Writing habits that let us keep consistently getting books out.
- Developing the necessary self-discipline to work from home as a writer full-time.
- Adapting when your books aren’t selling (or to keep selling as the markets change).
- The importance of good business decisions and some of our suggestions.
A relatively short list, but we managed to talk for an hour! Hopefully, you’ll find something useful.
Thank you for listening, and thank you to Joshua Pearson for producing the show.
